This week we had a visitor, Rob Smith, who showed us how to improve our writing, and make it sound even better! We did a piece of writing based on the song “Titanium”. It was really fun doing this and some of the writing was really fantastic. He taught us many things to improve our writing like using short sentences to create tension. Photos to follow!
It was Monday and no one wanted to get up in the morning for school, even though we learn a lot and new things everyday. However Tuesday was a great day and everyone was happy and cheerful. In addition, Peter our P.E teacher was at a competition on our usual day for P.E. so he had to come on Tuesday. Instead of playing cricket like we always do, we were going to complete an obstacle course with different levels , different challenges and different stages. Although, it is only an obstacle course, it was still really fun and amazing. It kept us fit and healthy, all we needed to do was exercise and work as a team. On Wednesday it was a very different day! 90% of the children were not looking forward to it! A fully trained nurse came in to teach us about sex education and puberty. We labelled and drew on a diagram about our body parts and most of us laughed and the rest took it seriously. Although some people were a bit embarrassed we still learnt a lot about our body and the way it changes! We came back from the Christmas holidays to be welcomed by all the staff. There were a lot of interesting lessons in store for us! In science we made complete circuits and experimented with what made them better or worse. It was lots of fun and very interesting. Later on in the week, we were happy to discovere the Simpsons family tree. There was a catch though- we had to write the answers in Spanish. Eventually, we were all able to complete it and we drew our own pictures. Speaking of pictures, in our England at War topic we drew portraits of William the Conqueror. They were fantastic! We also did sports and we chose quick cricket because we play it all the time. Then we researched the battle of Hastings. And we found out lots of interesting facts. And learnt lots about this topic.
On Monday 15th of December we finished our latest book called Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. It was a sad ending for Sadako because she had Leukaemia, caused by the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima and passed away. She was buried with 1000 paper cranes and this true story has become a symbol for world peace. On Tuesday we watched the children from Reception and Year 1 perform their Christmas sing along. Meanwhile, Miss Toft's English group worked with Miss Arnold from Wade Deacon High School towards a level 5 or 6 in our reading. We also created our own calendars for 2015 and gained inspiration from a Catalan artist called Joan Miro. On Wednesday we created beautiful Spanish Christmas cards using our Christmas Spanish vocabulary and on Thursday morning we enjoyed a Christmas movie, Home Alone and had a fabulous Christmas party! This week's blog was created by Dylan, Connor, Mia, Amy and Harry. Last week, at the Christmas Fayre our class made sweet jars. They were really popular! There were lots of other stalls too such as adopt the bear, a raffle and everything in the fayre was soon gone! We made almost £1000 and would like to thank everyone who supported us! Some of the earnings went to the RSPCA and the rest was for school funds. We also had a Disney Frozen cake compition. It was a hard decision for Mr Buckley but in the end he chose a 3D Olaf cake as the overall winner and then they went on sale at the chrismas fayre. Later on that week we put up our school christmas tree and decorated it with over 900 lights! In science, we made a game about how chedder cheese is made in a factory and how its made in farms. In art we made some beautiful art work by blending colours to make a sunset effect and then we cut out animals out of black sugar paper to make a silhouette effect. We are now looking forward to our final week in school before the Christmas holidays. This week's blog was created by Anna G, Alex S, Holly and Matthew Our new library and learning hub was opened last week we have affectionately called it the hub because of a place out of Colomendy with the same name. We have moved the computers around and it looks amazing. Teachers have spent lots of money on new books ; we can't wait to get stuck in. We started looking at Aboriginal are from Australia. Aboriginal art is based on ancient stories and dates back to 50,000 years ago. Our art is made with paint and cotton buds to create a picture from dots. This week we had lot's of fun in art making Christmas baubles for Morrisions local. We are all desperate to know whether any of us have won the competition! This week's blog was created by Emily A, Gary, Charlotte, Tabitha and Liam. During this week in P.E lesson with Peter, we took part in cricket. The whole class really enjoyed it . He taught us how to play non-stop cricket and let us field and bat. We all had great fun and can't wait for him to come in again next week. As part of our music unit for this half term, we performed this year's Children in Need song 'God Only Knows' in or whole school assembly. We also learnt sign language to accompany the song. In art, we returned to our topic Pole to Pole and created pictures of penguins. We used pastels to create icy backgrounds and used maps of Antarctica to build the shapes of the penguins. During Spanish we combined our knowledge of numbers with our understanding of the items in our pencil case! We completed tasks to show what we've learnt. This week's blog was created by Kacey M, Megan, Jack, Alex N and Thomas Our new topic is called Pole to Pole. We made our own globes and identified the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, as well as the Arctic and Antarctic Circles. For our science lesson, we had a visitor from Wade Deacon High School called Mrs Evans. During this lession , we learnt about micro-organisms and participated in an investigation and experiment. We look forward to seeing our results next week. We also tested some of the homework projects sent in for science week! For the past two weeks we have had a visitor come to our school, to teach us new skills in PE. This week , we played team archery and some children scored a bullseye! This week's blog was created by Caitlin, Ellie, Lewis, Kacey G and Macy Last week was quite tense - Mr Buckley was having a very hard time judging whose science projects were the best! He planned to have some runners up, but the main prizes were tickets to the Catalyst Museum. There were lots of brilliant projects though and it was a hard decision. Everybody kept their fingers crossed, hoping that they would be the winner. The actual winner from our class was Ellie Brocklebank, who won a book. Meanwhile we had an arty week - the whole school made poppies and year 6 made bridges as part of an investigation. This involved us needing to buy materials for our bridges. In addition, the police came in for a special assembly on how to keep ourselves safe. Stay tuned and let's see what happens next week! This week's Blog was created by Anna S, Euan, Eve, Lauren and Owen We drew our topic to a close with a fantastically successful celebration! On Tuesday, we all came to school dressed in red or gold and took part in a carousel of activities: making spring rolls; creating Chinese scrolls; designing kites; composing music using the pentatonic scale and finally, learning a wonderful dragon dance, courtesy of Louise from The Education Group. The day was enjoyed by all and was a fitting end to what proved to be a very creative topic. On the final day of term, we were able to share the dance, music and all the art work we have done with our parents during a Phase 3 assembly and open afternoon. |
